Jade

On Saturday the 20th of June there was a big flood.

Nikita stayed at my house. When we woke up we were playing in my bedroom.  We went outside there was lots of water on the road. We went in the car to look at the ourua river. And we went to the creek it was getting higher and higher I was scared because I thought it might go in my house.

"Why is the river going higher and higher?" I asked Mum.

"Because there has been lots of rain for a couple of days jade girl," Mum said.

On Saturday morning it was flooded in Feilding.

On Sunday it was still flooded so brother asked my dad "Can we go down puddles?''
Dad said ''Yes." So me and my brothers went to the bridge and Feilding High school courts and North Street School and then we went back to the bridge down North Street and the water was nearly up to the bridge.

Finally me and my brothers went back home and had a shower because we got wet and we were cold . Me and my brother were outside and then Caleb (he is my other brother) he went inside. Me and my other brother Kodi were outside playing in the puddles. In the middle of the day my mother said ''The water is nearly up to the bridge". The next day when we went to school my brother said ''The water has gone down.''

On Saturday there were loads of floods. There was one across the road.

First we went to Palmerston north.there where floods every where. Next we went to countdown on the way mum said "Oh no!"

We went home because it was raining. I cleaned my room. Then dad came home we watched the news. Dad and I went to the stream and it was high.  The water was wavy and was flowing very fast.  There was a slip on the other side of the bank because of all the rain.

We went back inside.  "Will it rain all night? I said.

I went to sleep thing about the rain.

As part of our writing programme we have been learning how to ask open questions to use question marks correctly.  We thought buddy class would be the perfect opportunity to practise asking open questions, so we got together and asked 10 open questions to get to know our buddy better.  Some of us learnt that we had quite a lot in common with our buddy.  We also found that by asking open questions we talk a lot more then when we ask or answer closed questions.

Afterwards we introduced Room 10 to Gonoodle!  We had some funky moves going on!!!

Brody has been learning to use doubles and halves to help him solve addition problems.  It is great to see Brody reading and applying feedback given to him.  Ka pai Brody - you've got this now!

Shirley was asked to create a fact file based on a planet of her choice using the text from her reading group.  I am proud of Shirley for picking out key facts and using key words to summarise the information.  Tino pai Shirley - keep up the great work.

Congratulations to Mercedes who received Leeroy (Purapurawhetu's supreme award) for consistently displaying the values of REACH and many other values.  Mrs Morris had so many super things to say about Mercedes she had to write a super long blurb on the back of her certificate!

We have been learning about Matariki.  We learnt that Matariki is when seven stars can be seen in the night sky, this signifies Maori New Year.  During Matariki people celebrate by coming together to celebrate by singing waiata and dancing, sharing stories, kai and much more.  We were lucky to have Tracy come in to share the myth of Matariki with us.  We also made stars our of harakeke.  We have been learning a variety of waiata, made poi and will be learning some tradtional rakau games this week.

Reading Strategies

WALT - make inferences.

We have been learning how to 'read between the lines'.  To make an inference we know that we have to use our prior knowledge and the clues that are given in the text.  We used the book "No David" by David Shannon to help us understand this.  Check out our learning below.
